Located in Corvallis , Oregon , Unites States of America , Oregano State University ( OSU ) is a coeducational, public research university offering undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees and a multitude of research opportunities.
It is recognized as one of the 73 operating Land Grants University of the World. It also is recognized as sea-grant, space-grant, and sun-grant. Amongst the several state universities , it is the only public university and one of the only two overall universities in the world to manage all the four grants.
According to a 2007 study of the top 500 universities of the world, this university was ranked higher than any other university in Oregon . It features in top 70 American universities while worldwide, the school is ranked in top 150 universities. It also features in top 50 universities of the US according to magazine STACK. It is ranked 29 th in the same list. It is also recognized as a University with very high research activity.
Components of the University
It was found in 1856 when Corvallis Academy was founded. In 1858, name was change to Corvallis College on the orders of Freemasons. October 27, 1868 is known as OSU Charter Day.
The Colleges of Agricultural Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Forestry, Health & Human Sciences, Liberal Arts, Oceanic & Atmospheric Sciences, Pharmacy, Science, and Veterinary Medicine are the various colleges that form the university.
It awards Bachelor's degrees in a number of different disciplines, including Agriculture studies, American studies, botany, computer science, environmental engineering, forest engineering, horticulture, liberal studies, merchandising management, nutrition and food management, psychology, range land resources, and wood science and technology. Students must take a number of baccalaureate core courses emphasizing writing, world cultures, the arts and sciences, literature, creative thinking, diversity, and global awareness.
Degree, PG Degree, and other Programs
It awards graduate degrees in more than 80 areas in the Colleges of Health and Human Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Liberal Arts, Science, Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, Engineering, Business, Forestry, Pharmacy, Political Science, and Veterinary Medicine. The College of Education includes Counselor Education. There are a few interdisciplinary programs. It also awards other professional degrees, including DVM and the D. Pharm.
Post baccalaureate and non-degree programs also exist. It has more than 200 academic programs. Undergraduates have the opportunity to perform real research within their respective field. The University is also home to a reputable Honors College with more than 300 student enrolled. Its students have the opportunity to participate in features like internship programs etc.
